Poringland Wood - unauthorised bike trails

27 November 2025
South Norfolk Council leases Poringland Wood from The Crown Point Estate. This enables the council to open the woodland for public access. The current lease expires in August 2025 and both parties are in discussions to secure a new lease. A condition of the lease is that the site is maintained in a good condition and that the land and trees are not damaged. South Norfolk Council and The Crown Point Estate are concerned at the current condition of Poringland Wood, in particular the pits and ramps built as part of a bike trail. These constructions are damaging to the ecology of the woodland and may offer a hazard to users.
We ask that the building and use of the unauthorised bike trails stops immediately. The Crown Point Estate are open to providing an alternative, more suitable location for a bike trail. They invite any interested parties to contact the Estate Office to explore this further. Please go to https://crownpointestate.co.uk/contact-us
Poringland Woods is a treasured public area and greatly valued by the community. Please help South Norfolk Council maintain Poringland Wood in good condition and allow continued access for all. We thank you for your co-operation.
