Public Information from Norfolk County Council, Ref: /12/82/PMC227/MO

22 June 2026

Road Closure on Long Road, Framingham Earl – Footway Maintenance

Norfolk County Council will be carrying out essential footway resurfacing works on Long Road, Framingham Earl, to improve pedestrian safety and address the poor surface condition of the pavements.

The scheme will cover the footway beginning at the junction of Long Road with St. Anne’s Road and extending northwest for approximately 685 metres. Please refer to the enclosed plan showing the location of the work and diversion route.

During the works, the existing worn footway surface will be removed and replaced with a new asphalt surface. Localised repairs to kerbs and edges will also be undertaken to ensure a smooth and durable finish.

The works are scheduled to take place from Monday 6 July to Wednesday 2 September 2026, with working hours between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm. To allow the works to be carried out safely, Long Road will be closed to through traffic during working hours. This closure may cause delays. Access to properties within the works area will be maintained wherever possible, though short delays may occur when work is taking place directly outside homes or businesses.

Diversion Routes:

A signed diversion route will be in place during the closure period.

Vehicular traffic: Drivers approaching Long Road from the south will be directed to follow the B1332 (The Street) through Poringland. From there, traffic will turn onto C187 Rectory Lane, continue along C187 Upgate, and then proceed via C187 Hall Road before rejoining Long Road beyond the closure. This route will be clearly marked with diversion signs to guide motorists safely around the works.

Pedestrian access: Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, although short diversions may be required around the working area to ensure safety. Temporary footway signs will be installed to direct pedestrians safely around construction zones.

Advance warning signs and diversion signage will be installed prior to commencement.

The project is expected to cost approximately £110,000 and will be delivered by Norfolk County Council’s Infrastructure Department in partnership with its appointed contractors.

We understand that these closures may cause inconvenience and would like to thank residents, businesses, and road users for their patience and cooperation while these important improvements are carried out.
